Greetings from Australia

Unread post by jarozila » Sun Jul 05, 2009 4:27 am

Hello,

my name is Jascha. I live in Melbourne, I am 43 years old, married and have a daughter (8 yrs old). I know it sounds like a bit of a Cliché - up there with the 'I like romantic walks along the beach' people use in online dating profiles, but I have been attracted to magic for a long time. Aside from reading Tarot for myself when I feel drawn to do so, I did not persue the attraction.

About 2 years ago I walked into a shop that sells herbs for magic use. I had been past the shop and that day just 'decided' to go inside. Got to talking to the owners and have become good friends with Julie and David. The shop was about to run a beginners magic course (spell craft, circle casting and making incense and oils). I did the course and have not looked back since. I have been joining in the wiccan festivals (solstice, equinox and cross quarter), and also joined the ceremonial magic group held at the shop. My daughter has also been coming along to the festivals. Ali loves going to the shop and meeing the other children. Both may well seem to some people very different. To me they are different aspects (female and male) of magical working.

My own working started off with making different incense for myself - divination and protection. I have enjoyed working with the four elements. I felt I was taking on a lot of other people's energy when going to the magic group. I felt quite off balance. I realised I needed better protection. I now wear a malacite neclace that I had made, as well as an elemental amulet. I was inspried by the idea of a mojo bag. In a ritual at home I and put together some herbs along with a piece of amethyst. I carry the bag in my pocket.

I came across a review for Catherine's book 'Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic' and bought a copy. Sorry Catherine, at the time I had not seen your great website - otherwise I would have bought the book from you not Amazon! Reading the uses for the various herbs and the receipies just resonated with me. Every time I pick up the book I am amazed but the wealth of information. I look forward to learning more about Hoodoo and hope to take part in the correspondence course.

Good roads and fair weather,

Jascha

Hi Jascha,
Welcome to the Forum! You will probably find that there is a good deal in the Conjure tradition that speaks to your attraction to oils, herbs, roots, and other materia magica. You will also find that there are some important distinctions between Wicca and Conjure. We have a good community of knowledgeable workers on the board, so make yourself at home!

take care,
Bri
