First, I hope everyone who is there is having a wonderful Hoodoo Heritage Festival. I live in Minnesota and was prevented from being there, which was particularly a bummer because I am very excited about the release of Johannes Gardbak's book on Trolldom :) I would like to take Miss Cat's course. I have bought most of the supplies and I'm about to send off the order to get the rest of the supplies and books on the list (as well as a few extra things like the Trolldom book!). I would like to know if I should schedule a reading with Miss Cat before I try to finally sign up or schedule an interview. I already know I definitely want to do this (from thinking about it for the past few months and some Tarot readings and I Ching throws I have done myself) and I am prepared to finish all the lessons on schedule. I don't have religious reservations or any others (if anything else, trying out Hoodoo has made me a little more religious than I have been for a long time, which has been good), and as I white guy I am ready to talk to black friends about any folk practices in their background. Thanks!

Hello, dave peterson ,
Acquiring a reading from Miss cat is not required for matriculation.
HOWEVER, I would highly suggest a reading from her because she is PHENOMENAL!
So, it's up to you. But, I say: GO FOR IT!!
Anyway, you'll love the course. Miss cat is the world's best teacher and mentor with the patience of a Saint. She is always there for us whether folks are in the program or have graduated.
I'm excited for you!!

So excited! I just placed my final order to qualify to take the Correspondence Course. Now to get the orders and schedule an interview with Ms. Cat. I've been waiting a while to reach here and now I'm one step closer. Thanks to you all for your hard work and continued support! Without you this would not have come as quickly as it has. Sharing is caring :)

Greetings
I have read, up in the thread above how the "Required Reading" is not necessarily "needed' to be purchased from the LMCC shop, or online, but Amazon purchases cover this as well. Do we need to provide any sort of documentation? And also, do we need to buy 2 copies of each book if 2 people in the same household wish to take the course at the same time? The other piece in question is the Conjure Toolbox CD, do we need to buy that again as well?

Thanks for the time on this, just trying to be clear.

It is my understanding that you do not have to purchase the "required reading" again if previously purchased. You just have to have them and at read them by the time you're accepted into the course. As far as purchasing 2 copies of each book or the toolbox, I'm not sure. I would think not, but you both would have to purchase items separately to establish your purchase history in order to qualify to take the course. You can always call the shop and speak to one of those wonderful workers who can give a definite answer. I hope this help.

Until next time,

Hi TawanaNicole
Yes, I actually called the shop yesterday ad confirmed that one only has to OWN the books, from whatever source. Two of mine were purchased through the shop (and signed by Miss Cat!) and the rest were bought through Amazon, or at the shop in May a few weeks ago. Same with the CD, we got that at Amazon. They were able to pull, and pool my invoices in less than 2 minutes, and answering any questions cheerfully and efficiently. So we are clear on the required purchases. 2 more orders and we're good.

thanks!

I'm really excited. I still need to call and confirm things with the shop, but I'm pretty sure I will be eligible for an interview after one more order. It will probably be at least another couple of months, but I have made definite progress and learned a great deal since I started ordering. Thanks to all in the forum who have offered their guidance and advice. I really appreciate it, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to be considered for the course.

Hi! I was recently accepted as a student for the Correspondence course and I submitted a request to join the student yahoo group. When I log on it says I am a member (on the general yahoo groups page) but I haven't been added to the group as of yet. I've tried a couple of emails that are listed for group moderator and such but haven't gotten anywhere. Does it generally take a few weeks to be added? Thanks, Michelle

Hello, Michelle,

Welcome to the course!! Hurrah!!

Miss cat will look at any e-mails that are directed to the group. Nagasiva has to make you a member of the course's private forum, and you have to be pre-approved by him before your membership goes through.

I know that he's been very busy and will probably get to it soon.

So, no worries.

Take care

Haha, Indeed! However, I disagree with the "no-good" component. I am convinced there is some good, somewhere within there... :)

Dear Miss Cat,

I want so much to take your class, and I am preparing myself for this big event...The only thing that upsets me a little bit was one of the assignments. As I am outside of the US, what can I do about the one saying that I sould inquire about the magickal traditions of African-American descend? I have a lot of friends with African or African-South American background, but obviously none from US...Does it count if it's over the Internet? Please help, as I want so much to learn more! Thank you in advance and I hope that you will be interested in taking me as an apprentice! Blessings, you're fantastic!

Hi!

I'm so exciting to be getting my first purchases for the correspondence course! Having salivated, ruminated, read, and absorbed - I feel VERY ready to embark on this great learning experience :)

Quick questions about the oils

Can Blockbuster Oil be counted as a protection oil? My initial instinct says no - since it seems many of the protection formulas focus on an energy of prevention. However part of it feels protective in that it removes things from enemies known and unknown.

"Although it may seem intuitive to identify Block Buster products and the spells in which they are used, with Road Opener spiritual supplies and their attendant magical spells, the two lines actually have different origination points and present a different array of workings. Road Opener can be metaphorically compared to a machete with which you clear away growth on an overgrown path, while Block Buster is symbolic of a stick of dynamite used to blow open a road through a mountain pass filled with rocks. Block Buster is sudden in its action, and will not necessarily create a delicate roadway to walk on, but if it works right, it will definitely take out all obstacles to progress."

In that line does the Money/Home Blessing oil count as a money oil for the purposes of this course since it's a blend with the dual purpose of blessing a home and drawing money in?

Thank you for any clarification!

Hello, mistressmomo,
So happy for you that you are going to take the course! You will love it!
You were right: Blockbuster is not used for protection. Sorry!
And Money/House Blessing does count as a money drawing. I personally like the plain Money Drawing for the course (but that's my personal preference)
Have fun! I'm excited for you!

I know you stated that you need to know a African-American person to be accepted into the course. But what if you are African-American with Native American and Irish roots? Do i use my family members or does this not apply? I know its silly to ask, but I plan on taking the courses in the near future

Question for Cat or LM Staff.

I have made some purchases going back to April of 2011. Most of them have been glass and figure candles which I have used to achieve amazing results for myself and others.

After having seen the results of using the candles, studied the Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic book, listened to almost all of the Lucky Mojo Podcasts online, and spoken with a lot of Rootworkers (both course graduates and self taught), I have decided to take the class.

I am planning on ordering some of the remaining supplies in the next day or so (Black Folder, Candle Book, CD Set, some oils and herbs).

While little of what I have purchased in the past can be counted towards required supplies, it has been spaced over three years.

My question is do I still have to space the remaining orders of the supplies out over four invoices over four months?

I was hoping to start the course in September as a birthday present to myself. If I have to wait four months it would push it into October.

Thanks for you help and all that you do!

Jack

I have decided to begin taking the steps needed to take the course! I am very excited! I already have a lot of Lucky Mojo supplies that I have bought from my authorizes reseller-retailers, and I love every product I've bought. I just placed my first order with Lucky Mojo's online store to start meeting the requirements.

I think the required purchases are really helpful, because while I already have a lot of the required items, it gives me a chance to buy and use things that I would not normally buy or use. For example, in my first order I bought the Chinese wash, which I am so excited about trying out! And I never would have thought to buy it, even though I love Van Van products.

I have been stalking the Lucky Mojo forums for quite some time, and have been using LM products for a while as well, so I think taking the course is the natural next step for me. So I guess this is in part an introduction to other perspective students, but also me sharing my excitement for the course! :D I can't wait to turn in some of the homework assignments I've read about, it all sounds like so much fun! And I definitely can't wait to get Cat's opinion on my work. Anyways, just wanted to share :)

I want to say ... I made my first order (And stocked up on my books! ) and Angela was immensely helpful in answering my questions about my order and concerns!!

Although it is no longer an issue for me, I thought I'd bring it up to the forum if anyone in the future has the same question.

Can a 4 oz Rootworker's blend of condition oils count as a purchase for this course, assuming it carries the primary intent. For example if I wanted to make a blend of:

Money Drawing, Money Stay With Me, and Steady Work " or

Kiss Me Now! Bewitching, and Follow Me Boy!

Also...on the topic of books, I recently bought some of the new books that came out of this year's heritage festival (Hoodoo Bible Magic and Hoodoo Spiritual Baths) to anyone considering doing extra prep work for this course...GET THEM and devour it....tons of quality info to jump start further research.

Gracias Lucky Mojo !!

Thank you for your input.
But, you didn't answer the question! <--or was that a question.....?? LOL
I imagine that you can buy the 4 oz. I wouldn't see a problem with that.
Good luck with your course. You will absolutely love it!!
Have fun!

Regarding the Rootowrker's Special Oil blends as qualifying for the course prerequisites -- sure, but you would have to order four of them.

4 Lucky Mojo hoodoo conjure oils,
one each for love, money, protection, and negative work

Hello all,
I am interested in Cats course and have slowely been buying item on the list when life circumstances occur and using them accordingly. I noticed recently when I looked at the requirements they changed a bit from a few years ago. Now a lot of the 96 page books are required, which I am fine with and own many and love, however I got them off Amazon, as I order and read a lot of books so I tend to buy on Amazon. I order all my herbs oil, roots, mojos , spell kits, candles from LM. My question is do those amazon books still count or is it required of me to purchase them through LM in stead? I have purchased some from LM like the black folder and other books, but some of the more recent like the hoodoo bible I ordered of amazon. Please advice!

Hello, j82 ,
I'm pretty sure that Miss cat will allow book purchases from Amazon.
BUT you would have to call the shop (or e-mail them ) to be absolutely sure.
You will love the course! I'm excited for you!!
Take care

Thank you Cat!

I figured as much! Lol I can' only imagine what a mix of a Negative, Love, Money, and Protection in one would do!

Soooooo excited...for my first shipment! I even fixed up my own mix of oil this week in prep for some interviews I had using the herb book .

J82 - books from Amazon are okay from what I understand ...also somebody confirmed it before earlier in the thread.

Yesterday I placed my second order with Lucky Mojo. Actualy, it's my third order, but order #2 was for stuff that isn't on the list of required purchases for prospective students.

I've been devouring the information on the website and the forum. My copy of "Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic" is less than two months old, but it's been underlined and highlighted and read so much that it looks much older. I've started looking more closely at the weeds alongside the roads as I'm driving around, and noticed THREE different patches of John the Conqueror growing between my house and my office!

I am very excited to be on this path, and as soon as I've completed the required purchases I'll be calling the store to set up my interview.

On a slightly related topic: I've done readings with pendulums and cards (both Tarot and regular Playing Cards) since I was a teenager. But learning about Bone Throwing has opened up a whole new world of reading for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you to both catherine yronwode and Michele Jackson for showing this to me!

geraldbelton, I live in North Carolina too, and I find a lot of the herbs and roots I use along the sidewalk or on the greenways. Thats one of the great things about living in the south, herbs used in hoodoo grow everywhere here! :)

I myself just put in my third order of required purchases a couple of days ago! I am getting so close to that 4th order, I can't wait! In my last order, I got a bottle of Peace Water, and I will definitely need to get more when this one runs out. I love the scent, it is almost like florida water. I've been using it all around my apartment. Can't wait to interview with Cat, and hopefully be allowed to take the course! :)

brian–s,

What a relief for me -- someone who wants to take the course instead of arguing with me about required purchases or religion or race! YAY for you!

Thankyou Cat! I very strongly agree with all of your requirements for the course, especially the cultural immersion aspect of it. You can't understand hoodoo without first understanding its history and where it came from! I just received my third order. Once again, I am thoroughly enjoying trying out all of the new products! I'll be placing my fourth order in the beginning of October, so you will be hearing from sometime after I receive that one. :D I am very much looking forward to an interview and being considered for the course!

Hello Mrs. Cat

Thank you for allowing me to be apart of the Lucky Mojo forum.

Question? I am interested in the Correspondence course. I noticed one of your requirements is to purchase 2 self-lighting incense powders, One for attracting and the other for repelling or harming. Which two would you recommend?

Thank you. Thomas K

Well, a nice complimentary pair would be Attraction and Destruction. Another fun pair would be Love Me and Hot Foot.

If you are interested in my course, then the next time you order any of the required materials, just add a note in the message area saying that you wish to be marked as a "prospective student." There is no obligation to become a student, but if you mention that, then any items you order from my shop will be check-marked as meeting the course requirements for materials.

I've read through the information and I am so excited! I know it will take time to gather all the required items from the site, but it will so be worth it. As a person who has been in a GD order for 10 years, I am so excited that I am on a new phase on my magical learning. This hits close to home for me (conjure was practiced in my family, but my parents were very much against it) so I definitely feel honored to be able to learn and carry on the tradition. Thanks Catherine! :)

I am in the process of purchasing the requirements for the Correspondence Course. I would like to know if Uncrossing Incense is considered a Repelling ?

No, Mel Casey, it does not. Uncrossing incense is used if one has been spiritually attacked, crossed, or jinxed; its purpose is to take off crossed conditions so that natural balance is restored and natural blessings and hope can return.

The requirements for incenses include "one for repelling or harming" -- but Uncrossing does not inflict harm or damage, does not send anyone away, does not repel either well-intentioned prayers or evil attacks, does not instill fear in those who are hateful, does not engender death in an enemy, and does not even inflict coercive conditions on anyone.

An example of repelling would be Hot Foot Incense. An example of harming would be Crossing Incense.

Please also do yourself a favour and read this thread from the beginning, as yours is a fairly frequently asked question. In fact, right above your post, essentially the same question was asked and answered.

Here's why this happens:

Hoodoo, which is black American folk magic, has suddenly become very popular among people for whom it is terra incognito -- an unknown territory or land. Culturally, they have been raised to avoid magical acts which include repulsion, damage, harm, or death. For people such as these, the course requirement to become familiar with cursing, crossing, goofering, throwing for, rooting, or other coercive, harmful, or deadly spells of magic is unthinkable. This course is not actually what they want to take. They would rather that somehow, against all odds, hoodoo become suitable to their cultural norms. They want a hoodoo that is all sweetness and light, and in which evil people could be dealt with by non-intrusive formulae like Uncrossing or Blessing.

But history shows us that hoodoo contains many spells of evil intention. Any course in hoodoo, to remain true to the tradition, muct include such material.

Think about it: Hoodoo developed in the black community. Do not think for a moment that Uncrossing incense would have helped your ancestors deal with the evil people who lynched or shot black men and women, or somehow send away the evil people who spat on them when they tried to use a "whites only bathroom" or sit at a "whites only" lunch counter.

Hoodoo includes many ways to fuck people up and kill them. It is necessary work.

Hi Catherine,
Sorry, I posted my question again I realized that after I posted, the initial post was a while ago. I just wasn't clear what would be considered repelling. I understand what your saying I been knowing about hoodoo all my life. I have family in the south (Mississippi, Louisiana) who some of them practice hoodoo and dealt with racism, lynching and Jim Crow segregation laws. I was never exposed to it until recently. Thanks for clarifying my question and providing information.
Peace and Blessings.

Am I in the right spot? When I clicked the forum link on the Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course section of the Lucky Mojo page it led me to the forum but I received an : Error 404 - Not Found The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI.

I am interested in working towards taking the Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course somewhere in the future. I just received my first order from Lucky Mojo. (So I have a little ways to go there) :D I'm also restructuring my life after a not so nice separation from my place of employment.
Most of the other requirements seem reachable if not already reached. I have been learning so much from the forums already. I hope to keep learning and reach all the requirement to take this course.
