I can't find ANYTHING on the forums about the Tricky Dogs. I'm not sure where to put this on the forum either...so apologies in advance. I just wanted to know if it's REALLY okay to put the pups on top of 2 lodestones for love drawing or if they'll drain the magnatism. I don't want to be a killer!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!

I apologize in advance if this topic has already been discussed; I was unable to find it in a previous post.
I would like to 'dress' several pieces of jewelry for different uses and situations (it's a long-term project!)
In Ceremonial Magick and some forms of Wicca, charged ritual items need to be stored individually wrapped in black silk, etc etc.
1) Is there a special way, in Hoodoo, to store dressed and anointed jewelry?
2) If so, what are the Hoodoo prescriptions for charged jewelry?
3) Can I keep them on my dresser?
4) Do they need to be 'fed'?

Hello, Kmcgarr77 --
I have merged your post into the very long thread titled "Anointed, Dressed, Consecrated Amulets Questions and Answers" because this is where we have previously discussed the matter.
There are plenty of tips and tricks already mentioned in this thread, so read from page one to get an overall impression of how we work in this tradition.
1) As for storing items, i would say that hoodoo certainly has been influenced by other traditions, and so the wrapping up of a dressed item in a manner similar to that found in European ceremonial magic is often indicated, but we don't go all dogmatic on specifics like "black silk." We might use a handkerchief, for instance, and it might be oiled, like a prayer cloth, or sprinkled with Hoyt's Cologne.
2) We don't "charge" stuff, sorry; the question is not relevant.
3) Storage in an enclosed place would be more appropriate for a wrapped item than out on the open on a dresser -- for instance, in your underwear drawer, between your box springs and mattress, in a jewelry box or container.
4) It is customary to re-dress, anoint, feed, or pray over such a piece of jewelry if you are wearing it regularly, but sometimes that sort of re-connection work cannot be done, as when the jewelry is given as a gift to someone. We have no dogma in this regard.

Thank you Miss Cat! Looking back at previous posts in this thread, I see that I should have used the term "dressed" instead of charged, the items already having inherent energy. I like the idea of handkerchiefs & underwear drawer; alot more practical than a "black silk charged with XYZ sigil at certain planetary alignments etc"
In fact the idea of using handkerchiefs in magic has alot of appeal.
Hope you guys are doing OK over there in CA

Re: How to Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans Questions and Answers
Hello. I hope I am posting this in the right place. I thought I posted it but it disappeared.
I bought 5 essential oil diffuser bracelets and wanted to see what you guys thought of the oils I am using on them or have any better sugestions.
1. A chakra one for my 16yo daughter she picked it out. She has trouble keeping friends and had a low self esteem. so I figured I would use
road opening + crucible of courage + attraction + love me . I figured the road opener would help her get out of her own way with making friends or should I use healing ? the attraction, love me and chuparosa would help draw true friends who love her.
Also wanted to keep her focused on her studies so should I make another mix with crown of success?
2. A calming howlite bracelet for my 11yo. He is borderline ADHD but they will not give him medication and we have tried all sorts of vitamins with little result. He is greatwhen he focuses but getting him to stop socializing is the problem- I know opposite of his sister. SO I was thinking of using the calming oil they send + healing + clarity + crown of success
3. ME- Calming howlite and a chakra bracelet. My husband and I are having marital problems. He was unloyal in the past. We also lack communication and are both bullheaded and stubborn. so I figured reconcilitation or healing + love me + chupporosa + follow me boy or Dixie love for loving healthy faithful sexy marriage.
I also need to work on myself, my image and self esteem is lacking and I have a lot of anxiety and want use healing + attraction + love me + LMO
And the third issue I have is trying to build a successful business so I was thinking fast luck+ prosperity + money drawing + money stay with me
4. Loyalty bracelet for my husband. He picked it out unknowingly. I showed him a picture of the calming one and the loyalty one and told him the calming one looked more for a girl. He fell into it and decided to go for the dalmation jasper loyalty bracelet lol. So easy. He asked what it does and I told him it was a calming bracelet and you put oils on it to decrease stress, sleep better etc. I told him a friend was giving me sample oils to put on the bracelets but little does he know that I am the friend and the oils will be lucky mojo. So I am thinking for him reconciliation + chupporosa + stay with me or stay at home + follow me boy. I figured with the bracelet and the oils he will be a good boy.
I am thinking of mixing the oils, praying over them and giving them fake names and then having my husband and daughter put the oils on their own bracelets every 2 days. I don't know how long it will last but it is worth a try.
I will also do the 7 day ritual with my husbands bracelet with my fluids and love oils so that it will be good to go even if he doesn't use the oils. I will just put the oils on my kids bracelets and give them to them
What do you guys think?

Hello tribaby789,
I think this is a great plan, and sneaky (in a good way) way to work.
My only suggestion would be to add Tranquility oil to your son's bracelet, to calm and center him:
http://www.luckymojo.com/products-tranquility.html
Take care.

Shutter, i have never heard of rider lodestones or tricky dogs "draining" the magnetism from a large lodestone.. That makes no sense to me. The use of tricky dogs on lodestones is shown and described in two books we publish, with no mention of such a thing:

It's not really which is the "correct" one, rather which one you find appealing.
Something "similar" to the one I have is something with the Hamsa and evil eye glass beads together such as this:
HAMSA HAND METAL WALL HANGER W/ ANTI EVIL EYE, FISH & FLOWER MOTIF & GLASS ANTI EVIL EYE DANGLE, 8.75" - http://www.luckymojo.com/metal-hamsa-ha ... nglers.jpg
Click here to add the above product to your cart.
I usually anoint this with Van Van oil - http://www.luckymojo.com/oil-van-van.html - weekly & recite Psalm 23 - http://readersandrootworkers.org/wiki/Psalms_23

Maybe you haven't had a chance to check all the links I provided before but a rather large list of items can be found on this page - http://www.luckymojo.com/protectionspells.html - under "PROTECTIVE CHARMS WORN ON THE PERSON" many of the ones found here are favorites for people as pocket pieces.
You may also be interested in a mojo bag to carry for protection such a the Fiery Wall of Protection Mojo - http://www.luckymojo.com/mojo-1x-fiery- ... ction.html
Depending on your situation, something else might suit you better like a Van Van mojo - http://www.luckymojo.com/mojo-1x-van-van.html or Fear Not To Walk Over Evil mojo - http://www.luckymojo.com/mojo-1x-fear-n ... -evil.html
Being so concerned with protection as you seem to be I'd suggest getting a reading with a reader or rootworker at AIRR - http://readersandrootworkers.org/ - that can help you with your particular situation. With everything we've already spoke about here, you may be using a shotgun when all you need is a sling shot
Sister Jean -
You're most welcome and thank you for your diligence in the forums. Your posts and many of the other moderators are inspiring!

This question is for catherineyronwode.
Hello I was reading some threads and I seen that you make jewelry for people. What number will I need to call to get that done and who would I speak with? Also what do I send in to you? Could I get something made for these things here:
I want to remove any jinx that was ever put on me and my son
I want protection from those who wish me and my son harm
I want a life full of prosperity for me and my son.

When in doubt, Psalm 23 is a good go-to. You can also check out the AIRR page on the Book of Psalms for more scripture with various attributions -http://readersandrootworkers.org/wiki/C ... _of_Psalms
There are many for protection and a couple for luck.
Hope that helps!

Re: How to Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans Questions and Answers
Hello CiCi,
That article may not refer to an item commercially available at luckymojo. The article's purpose may be of merely mentioning the charm's historical value, since that is also a concern of the luckymojo archive. I'm thinking that if it was carried by luckymojo it would have a direct "add to cart" button through which you could purchase it.
Either way, for further reference, here's a complete catalogue of what LM has in store, divided into propper classifications: http://www.luckymojo.com/catalogue.html
This is a link to a specific catalogue of every amulet carried by LM, you might want to have a look into it:
http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatamulets.html
Needless to say that this forum, being connected to the LM as it is, foccuses on discussing products that are carried by the shop. Telling you where you could find it elsewhere, commercially, would be a bit unfitting. But I suppose you could try antique shops and ebay. That was a cute choice, btw
Good luck!
Cordially,
Asturias.

Hi, CiCi --
I do not "make" jewelry, but i do prepare charms and lockets for clients. I do not do this for the public at learge, just for my personal rootwork and reading clients. The cost is relatively modest, and you may supply your own jewelry if you wish, which cuts down on the cost. SImply book a reading with me and we can discuss it.
If you want to attempt to bless and consecrate your own amulets or jewelry, one method, using Holy Trinity Vigil Candles was posted by Rev. Ernest, here. Check it out!

Re: How to Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans Questions and Answers
I read the "read me" file in this section, and the oils page, but could not find my specific question answered. It may have been generally answered but I want to be sure I understand.
I keep a crystal that a friend gave me as a ward or guardian at my place of work. I want to baptize it and anoint it. Which anointing oil should I use? A protection oil? Or is there something more all purpose. It's not that I want to keep troubled people away - I just don't want them to cause any harm.
Also, if I was making a doll for healing someone of past trauma, which anointing oil would be best for that?
And finally, is anointing a way of feeding, and how often should it be done?
So sorry if this is already written about somewhere and I just missed it. The site is so vast I tend to get lost. Thank you all for all you do. <3

Hello Desert Lavender,
Welcome to the Lucky Mojo forum! We're happy to have you here.
I moved your post to this thread about anointing and dress amulets and other objects, since that seemed to be the closest to what you are asking. In the future, please don't start new topics; instead, find the thread that best addresses your question and post there.
You'll find lots of information here about what you're trying to do! Protection oil would be great for your crystal guardian. And you could dress your doll with Healing oil.

To read more about the care of doll babies, please visit and ask questions under this thread:

Take care!

Re: How to Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans Questions and Answers
Thanks for all the advice.
I had a hard time finding this. It didn't show up in my notifications. I decided to type "anointing doll" into the search box and it lead me right here. I really appreciate your answers.
I have another question about dolls, in the sense that a doll is used for a surrogate or effigy. I've read about people using all kinds of things for dolls - even playing cards, and I wondered -- and I hope this doesn't sound crazy -- but could a separate FaceBook page be used as a "doll," or healing surrogate? The worker would send positive posts, blessings, psalms, images, etc. to this other part of the self that needs healing?

Desert Lavender,
I'd have to say no to the Facebook idea as a doll baby. I mean it's a great idea to move forward with healing work but a dolly is something physical that you can hold and work with your hands or body. I wish you the best with your work though. I would check out the doll pages of the forum for more ideas. general-doll-baby-voodoo-doll-poppet-qu ... t8946.html

Re: How to Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans Questions and Answers
Hi!
In my personal life I have always been big on wearing jewelry. I use it for a lot of things like grounding, protection, and even just sometimes to feel close or bonded to my boy friend or friends.
I already have a hamsa amulet from Israel from when my Aunt and Uncle went; besides that I have nothing that I can think of for this practice.
Now that I am looking into Hoodoo and hoping to start a correspondence I was wondering what types jewelry are actually important and what would be recommended to get first.

Jackiie3xld --
In discussing the use of jewelry in hoodoo, you would wish to look back to the origins of the practice among African American slaves. There would have been very limited opportunities for personal adornment, but it is clear when reviewing the anecdotes and comments by slave-owners and by escaped slaces that coins (pierced with a hole and worn at the neck or at the ankle) stand out as quite important.
After emancipation, all the forms of adornment available to free people were adopted by African Americans, both those who practiced hoodoo and those who did not. Symbolic jewelry -- such as pieces that depicts hearts, hoseshoes, four-leaf clovers, hands, eyes, and the like, could be seen as both ornamental or as amulets. Youching them with a spiritual oil and praying over them would keep them working.
Beginning around 1900, as African American people experinced more fluidity in social mingling, an interest arose among rootworkers in adopting Jewish (and Jewishinfluenced Christian) forms of occult and hermetic magic. At that time, emblems like the Seals of Mose, Seals of Solomon, and other sigils, signs, and seals, originally designed for writing on parchment, were crafted in metal, and these have been popular in hoodoo for more than 100 yars now.
I hope this helps.

Hello colliz,
Yes, you could dress his keys or phone case lightly in one of the love oils or sachet powders that corresponds to your goal. Be sure to only lightly dress them so your work goes undetected.
Also, please do not sign your posts as this takes up forum space.
Good luck.

After speaking my intention of each of my crystals and putting them in a white mojo bag (after cleansing them with salt) may I put a few pinches of salt in the bag and charge the stones by keeping the bag in the sun here and there?

Shutter,
I'm not familiar with working with crystals this way. All I can say is give it a try and see if it works. When treading on new ground, I like to keep a journal of the goal I am working toward, ingredients added, and words or psalms said in the new spell. Then I go back a few weeks later and write down the results. I would give this a try to track your progress with it.
Best of luck!

Hi Shutter,
There isn't much crystal usage in the Hoodoo tradition, as far as I'm aware. We use lodestones, pyrite, and minerals like salt, but there isn't any crystal healing or new age gridding, or anything of of that nature. If you do use crystals you'll be innovating, and I think Terra Rising's advice about journalling will serve you well
.
Good luck!

Hello Shutter,
FiachnaCybele is correct. Crystals and other stone amulets are not part of the hoodoo tradition. Minerals as she mentioned, including lodestones and pyrite, play a role but crystals come from other traditions. Nothing stops you from incorporating them in your work, but there is no hoodoo-related advice on their use.
Good luck.

Is this the same as the amulet vial? I purchased and received mine. How do I use it?

Shutter -- the amulet bottles and vials are in clear glass, the packets are in clear vinyl. They come from the same culture and have a few ingredients in common. Both are carried for luck and spiritual protection, and it is common to put the vinyl packet in one's wallet and the glass bottle or vial in the glove box of one's vehicle.

Re: How to Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans Questions and Answers
Hello all,
I was wondering what would be a good talisman to wear or get to help with finding a new job? I’m a single woman with no kids if that would make a difference too. Also, will I dress it with steady work oil or van van oil? I was thinking sw oil since I wanted to use it for a job, but I wanted to make sure. Thank you for your time and patience!

birainluv,
Have you considered a mojo? Lucky Mojo makes a Steady Work mojo in regular or triple strength. It is recommended that you dress it with Steady Work oil but people have been known to dress mojos with whiskey as well. There is also a Steady Work spell kit that makes a mojo hand after completing it.

Hey Terra,
I never thought about that actually. That’s a really good idea. For future reference, is a Sacajawea a coin that can be used in that manner? Also, is it just for a woman with children? I was trying to find more info but I don’t think I was looking in the right direction. Thank you for your time and patience!

birainluv,
It is used for single mothers but it could also be used for women who are seeking employment. She was an independent woman who worked hard to support herself and family.
I'm also fond of the Walking Liberty coin. It shows a woman draped in the US flag, walking with the sunrise behind her. It is commonly used for freedom and independence. I am independent woman, I live my life on my terms and that means having a good job and depending on no one else for my happiness and needs.

omar888,
Hello and welcome to the forum! I moved your post to this thread on talismans. I have to kindly ask that you do not create new topics, please use the search bar in the upper right to search a subject. If you are unable to find what you're looking for, please post a question using the Quick Reply at the bottom of the page. It can take a lot of time moving things around and this helps us keep the forum in order. We appreciate the help.
If you know the name of the talisman you could do a search for it on the forum. You could also look over the amulet list located here: https://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatamulets.html
I haven't heard of the talisman myself. If you call the Lucky Mojo shop they might have some more information. 707-887-1521 or email them at https://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatmap.html
I hope this helps!

Re: How to Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans Questions and Answers
Hi all! I'm a long time lurker, this is finally my first post on this forum.
I wanted to ask if anyone could give me a little more information on a pendant I bought when 20 years ago (I was 11! That's when I started dabbling), it is made up of 2 1959 Nigerian coins like the ones Lucky Mojo sells here (https://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatamulets.html#nigeria) but they are soldered together and they hold an iridiscent glass marble in the center. Both stars of David/Solomon are facing the outside. I don't know if they hold anything else on the inside, but there is a small opening where things could get through.
When I bought it, they just told me it was for protection, but why this coin? why this arrangement with the marble? does anyone know?
It's always drawn A LOT of attention and feels very powerful. Some days it gives me the creeps. Other days it feels ok. But it always commands respect. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
I have not worn it regularly for a few years, and I've never "prepared" it before, but I want to start wearing it again. Would a VanVan oil + psalm prayer be enough? Would it undo any previous work done unto it?

Hello MariM,
Welcome to the Lucky Mojo forum. We're glad you have joined in the conversation.
This does sound like a protection amulet. I can't tell you why it is arranged in the manner you describe, but you can continue to work it for your protection. I would dress it with Protection or Fiery Wall of Protection oil myself, but you could certainly use Van Van oil with it. It will not undo any previous work done on the amulet.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Call-in Number to be a guest or to listen via telephone: 818-394-8535
Just like on any call-in radio show, the hosts will see your number, and one or more lucky listeners will be invited into the caller queque. Stay on the line, and when your name is called SAY HELLO, and let our announcer read your question.
5. Sit back and listen to your TWO free readings, plus a detailed spell-casting designed for you alone. Have a pen or pencil and a piece of paper -- or an electronic notepad -- handy to take notes.
6. Details of your reading will appear online in the show's CHAT LOG, which is usually posted online within 48 hours after broadcast. You can also go back and listen to the show any time in our radio archive.
7. All we ask is that if you are selected and receive a free reading, you wait six months before coming back to get another reading. This allows all of our listeners to have a change.
That's all there is to it!

Re: How to Use Amulets, Charms, and Talismans Questions and Answers
Hi All --
A question of amulets getting inadvertently washed..
An amulet i made prescribed by Miss Cat for protection after a long wear literally disappeared off my neck about a month ago... I'd figured it had done its job, and that was why...
... but I found it doing the laundry today. It got washed, but I have to admit, I wept when I found it. And it feels right around my neck again, even though its damp...So, I guess I still need it.
The amulet is herbs and snake sheds in a leather pouch (not a mojo). In light of the ingredients, would folks recommend i just let it dry and wear it, or should I remake it?
I'm so glad I found this thing, even though it smells like laundry soap lol.. thabks all!

magicmurphy,
If it was made of a hard substance I would cleanse it, dress it with oil and wear it again. However, this is made from soft items, I would dispose of them and make a new one. The water likely damaged the content.
