Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
I don't know if I can post this here, but I was wondering about summoning a relative that has passed. I'm still working on getting rid of my mother crossing me, so I can't do an altar yet.
Is there a spell that can be done to bring my dad's spirit to me and if so, do you know someone who can do that?
Thanks.

Thank You Saint Dymphna, Ganesha, and Saint Jude!

mickeymsb,
I moved your post to this topic which has 5 pages of posts on how to summon a spirit.
You also would want to look into products such as Spirit Guide to help connect with guides, helpful spirits, and ancestors. You can start with setting up a work area, add a candle dressed with the oil, burn incense, then pray to communicate with him. Having his photo or a memento of him would be helpful too.
Always use caution when summoning spirits, as some are not who they say they are. Read the posts here about testing the spirits. To ward off negative or trickster spirits, you can mark the corners of your work area with four small candles dressed with Fiery Wall of Protection oil.

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
mickeymsb,
In addition to what JayDee said, i would add that your idea of hiring someone to do a "spell" to summon the spirit of your dad is not common.
Instead, and generally speaking, you would first attempt such a thing yourself -- he is your dad, after all, and is close to you. Use the techniques JayDee outlined. If you do not succeed, you can engage the services of a Spiritualist medium, someone who has a gift for contacting those on the other side.
Quite a few members of the Association of Independent Readers and Rootworkers are spirit mediums, and AIRR has produced a useful, illustrated tutorial on Spirit Contact and Mediumship here, along with links to the names of the AIRR members who perform this work for clients:

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
Who do you recommend I pray to or petition for all rivals to abandon my loved one, remove any hesitation/insecurity on his part, etc?
Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
PrayPrepareProsper,
You certainly can pray to God he does not like people interfering in relationships. There are many versus in the Bible you could quote in the work as you pray a plea to God to intervene on your behalf. To remove insecurities and hesitations, you can do this with praying to God as well and working with a Skull candle to influence their thoughts and behaviors. Crucible of Courage is a great oil to use to increase confidence and add Clarity oil to help him think clearly.
These AIRR pages may give some words for you to pray.

Using the Dark Arts oil? Any precautions I should take, or things I should know?

HoodooPrince ,
I merged your post into the topic on Deities, Angels, Spirits and Saints. This is a section where you can read 10 pages of post with similar questions.
Dark Arts Oil and the condition line is used to make packs with spirits among other uses. As with any work that involves invoking a spirit you should wear proper protection and keep yourself safe.
There are varies methods, individual methods may vary, they may be different based on the areas of expertise or cultural upbringing. A ceremonial magician may use methods completely different then one trained in Jewish Kabbalah or one in folk magic. The best thing to do is contact a worker who does this type of work and be trained by them. AIRR offers people who are experts in these fields who also do magic coaching, they would work with you in the process.
In the Catholic tradition it is traditional to call on St. Michael or another protective angel before engaging with a spirit that is considered unknown or dangerous.

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
The Norse goddess Freya has many devotees, and rightly so --

The AIRR Tech Team gathered together today to produce a new web page on Freya, the Norse goddess of love, sexuality, and prosperity who leads the Valkyries into war. Freya is associated with sexual pleasure, war, and spell-casting, and her chariot is drawn by cats! Ingeborg Svea Norden wrote the page, Catherine Yronwode edited the text and provided the vintage graphic, Reverend James was our proofreader, and Nagasiva Yronwode did proofreading and created the graphic announcement. Devils or Angels? -- the Hindu Rakshasas are demonic protectors and allies! Check them out at this new page from AIRR:

The AIRR Tech Team rallied together to fashion a new web page on the Rakshasas, a race of powerful, warrior-magician demi-gods who are either protective or predatory upon humanity. Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
Baldr the Beloved is among the most revered, and tragic, of the Norse deities. Learn about him at this AIRR page:

The AIRR Tech Team renewed its commitment to the AIRR website as it created a web page on Baldr, the Norse god of sunlight and day. As one of the sons of Odin (with Frigga), he is known as the most handsome, kind-hearted, and beloved of the Aesir. Ingeborg Svea Norden wrote the page, Nagasiva Yronwode provided the graphic and created the graphic announcement, Catherine Yronwode edited the text, and Reverend James did proofreading and helped with site-wide linking. For healing and guidance, many Muslims revere Al-Khidr -- and this page from AIRR tells you all about him:

The AIRR Tech Team grouped together today to put forward a new web page on the immortal Muslim spiritual teacher al-Khidr, "The Green One" who has guided and taught the devout throughout history. Miss Michaele wrote the page that describes this wondrous man and obtained the 17th century graphic for our use, Catherine Yronwode edited the text and provided site-wide linking, Reverend James and Reverend Art did proofreading; and Nagasiva Yronwode created our graphic announcement. Check out our verdant page on al-Khidr!

The AIRR Tech Team offers a page on Odin, the Norse god who sacrified himself to himself!

The AIRR Tech Team Holiday Skeleton Crew rallied today to create a web page on the Norse god Odin! As the leader of the Aesir, Odin is associated with war, battle, victory, death, wisdom, shamanism, magic, poetry, prophecy and the hunt. He is also well known for hanging for nine nights from Yggdrasil, the World Tree, while pierced by his own spear, in order to learn the meanings of the runes and gain power over the nine worlds. Ingeborg Svea Norden and Lara Rivera wrote the page's text, Catherine Yronwode contributed text and edited, Reverend James provided the beautiful vintage 19th century graphic, and Nagasiva Yronwode did proofreading and created the graphic announcement. Check out our victorious new page on Odin!

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
hello,
I am not sure if im writing in the appropriate forum, if not I apologize in advance. I am writing concerning the best way to honor Saints/Spirits/God. I am african but was raised christian conservative. I have been learning(secretly) rootwork for a while now and still learning. i dont have an altar (yet). the last couple months i have been blessed in a way that i dont think i can describe, its almost unreal. i landed a (very good) job after years of literally been in the house (mental illness), did not finish school. I have been praying to High john, God and a couple months wrote a petition to lady loreto for my first apartment (i believe this is in the work because i first need income
!). everything so far has been nothing but divine intervention, my prayers for steady work have been answered so swiftly im almost scared lol,and i recently got a raise! how do i properly express gratitude, outside of simply praying. Ive been thinking about burning a 7 days candle with a petition under and donating. would that be appropriate ?
i have been using LM’s oils for prosperity, wealthy way, crown of success, attraction.
vanvan, steady work and high john oil rubbed together religiously while reciting psalm 23. so i want to thank lucky mojo as well
i also had a question concerning the high john root. i cannot have any liquor in my environment right now (or cigars). Is feeding it the oil for the moment okay ?
thank you

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
Hello yaa,
There are many ways to express gratitude, customarily providing an offering for assistance granted is the most common, for example an offering of pound cake for St. Expedite after he gives his help. While dedication of prayers could be seen as a form of giving thanks for a Spirit's intercession it wouldn't be my only form of showing my gratitude. Offerings of flowers, food, drink...these can often be made without building a formal (and obvious) altar. Just take a moment to see what offerings are considered acceptable to honor the Spirits you've chosen to work with. If you have a space in your place that you could dedicate to providing offerings it would be ideal. It could be as simple as an small table in a corner, perhaps with a white cloth covering it. If this is still not presently possible, donating in their name is acceptable as well, especially if you didn't make any promises of specific gifts before beginning your petitions.
And I have to agree, the oils from Lucky Mojo are a fantastic addition to any works!
Lastly, yes, you can feed your HJ with the oil.
Blessings and best regards,
Reverend Art

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
Hi Yaa,
To build on what Rev Art has posted. The best way to honor the work of Spirit is to help others. If you see others struggling do work for them. It may be a candle and prayer, uncrossing, or tips to get a job. If you know someone struggling to find housing, educate them about Our Lady of Loreto. Remember to keep working with Spirit even when times are good, leave coffee or water for the Ancestors, and give a little bread.
You may not have a place for the altar, but you may have a plant. Bambo, Money Tree, and Ivy are not only good decorations, you can put some coins in the bottom, and pray over the roots as the plant grows your success grows. Just keep the plant alive.
Best of luck,
Mr. Christopher

The brother of Freya, the Norse God Freyr brings peace and prosperity to the land:

The AIRR Tech Team paraded out today to announce a new web page on Freyr, the Norse god of peace, prosperity, fertility, virility, pleasure, fair weather, and the harvest who is depicted as a handsome, strong, virile man, often with a large, erect phallus. He bears an enchanted sword said to never miss its target, a ship that always enjoys a favorable breeze and can be folded up which can be carried in his pouch, and he rides a golden boar whose mane glows to illuminate his path. Ingeborg Svea Norden and Reverend Art wrote the page, Catherine Yronwode edited the text and sourced the graphic image; Papa Newt, Miss Athena, and Reverend James did proofreading and site-wide linking; and Nagasiva Yronwode did proofreading and created the graphic announcement. Hi SHEFA!
Welcome! As you're new to the Forum, and if you haven't already, when you have a moment please be sure to add a post to the Forum Introductions thread. We look forward to getting to know you, it's a pretty good community we have built here!
If you're new to working with a Saint, from my perspective, I don't initially ask for 'too much' too soon, until a relationship has been built up. Are your petitions regarding the same topic/situation? Can they be worded in a way to develop one solid petition? These are some things I would consider. You most likely can come up with a concise way to approach the situation for the best results. It won't take setting up two altars, one will be fine.
I wanted to share some information with you from a post Reverend James, another AIRR member, shared previously regarding working with Saint Expedite [with a few edits for relevance]:
Blessings!

Hope this helps!1. [When setting up your altar, using] red is pretty common, I would also say green. He is also called "The saint of many colors". You may want to see this page for a lot of information about St. Expedite - as well as this forum - Saint Expedite Spiritual Supplies Questions and Answers
2. Many things can go on an altar, all you really need is an image if you have absolutely nothing else. You may want to look at this book - Hoodoo Shrines and Altars
3. Its usually said that you give your promised thanks once he comes through for you. Basically whatever you promise him, make sure he gets it when you said you'd give it.
4. If you choose to use flowers, then I would use real flowers vs fake. If for no other reason than to know when they need changed, as nothing lasts forever (when they wilt, for instance).
7. If you're asking [how] you use a petition? Check out this book for lots of examples of petitions - Paper in My Shoe and this forum topic - Petition Papers and Name Papers Questions and Answers
8. [To build a relationship,] there are novenas to him, or you can simply pray from your heart. You may also like to check this forum post and the one following for some other [information], and the topic may also provide [additional] information you're looking for Saint Expedite Novena Candle Questions and Answers
Blessings!

SHEFA,
Reverend Art has provided you with amazing information, guidance and links! I wanted to simply add, that you mentioned you are new to St. Expedite work and as Reverend Art indicated relationship, before you go asking for much, it is common to spend time with the Saint, give items, pray, set a candle, build a relationship. Spirits are not very different than the living, imagine I come into your home say give me these two things and leave? The response would likely be negative or not even addressed.
When working with a Saint or a spirit such as Saint Expedite, I would not overload with work you want done (as Art said), but start with one task, if he comes though, pay him for it, then another task. Not every person a saint will work with, and even if they work with you, it does not mean they will work with you every time. Hence the advice in building a relationship.
You may ask, "how do I know if a Saint, Deities, Angels, spirits etc. will work with me?" Start by asking, calling on them, setting a candle, a glass of water, some food, a photo or statue of them if able. Pray and ask them if they will help you, ask for a sign that they are willing that you will understand. Do this for a week. If at any point you get an indication that you. clearly understand, yes or no, then act on it. If they say no then say thank you and let the candle burn out. If they say yet, let this candle burn and prepare for the next work. If no answer you can use divination such as a pendulum or Tarot deck to determine.
Lucky Mojo has several products that help with work such as Psychic Vision, Spirt Guide, which can be dressed on a candle, worn on the body, burned in the area you are asking for assistance.

The Roman Goddess Minerva brings victory through strategy, and is a patroness of the arts; check out her brand new page at AIRR:

The AIRR Tech Team studied in council today and carved out a new web page on Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, justice, law, and victory in war; and the sponsor of the arts, trade, and strategy. She is the wisest of the Roman pantheon of deities, overseeing all things that require forethought and a calculated approach, and is revered by craftspeople, merchants, state dignitaries, military leaders, artists, and philosophers alike. Reverend Art wrote the page and provided the graphic. Catherine Yronwode edited the text, Papa Newt and Nagasiva Yronwode did proofreading, and Nagasiva created the graphic announcement. A god so evil he might almost be considered a demon -- but Apep is a deity!

The AIRR Tech Team slithered together to promote a web page on the Egyptian god, Apep, the reptile deity associated with chaos, disorder, darkness, earthquakes, thunder, storms, and death. Apep is the ultimate force of evil in Egyptian theology, the enemy of light and truth, and the greatest enemy of the Sun god Ra. He is depicted in a serpentine form of immense size, most frequently as a snake measuring sixteen meters long, with tightly compressed coils and a head made of hard rock or flint. Reverend Art wrote the page, Catherine Yronwode edited the text and sourced and photo-edited the graphic Papa Newt and Nagasiva did proofreading, and Nagasiva created the graphic announcement. Check out our scaley page on Apep!

AIRR Tech Team Report 5/16/2023 Saint Therese of Lisieux!

The AIRR tech team spent time today pruning and trimming and expanding the web page for the Little Flower, Saint Therese of Lisieux! Created in 2010 by the late Dr. E., edited by Catherine Yronwode, and image-sourced by Nagasiva Yronwode, today the page was enhanced with the 2015 sainthood of Therese's parents, the first married couple in the church's history to be canonized as a couple. This is the second move for this page. The first was to make room for Saint Theresa of Calcutta, and the second was to reflect the original French spelling of her name. Miss Cat rolled up her sleeves and added credits, and meticulously edited and stitched together links that weave a path from Saint Therese to other fantastic pages on AIRR. Nagasiva cooked up a snazzy new graphic announcement, and Papa Newt was on detective duty, proofreading and writing this playful update. We’re excited to unveil the fresh look of the page, dedicated to the miraculous healer, Saint Therese of Lisieux.

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
Hello!
After reading and engaging in the radio show on discussions about hoodoo, it's noticeable that Virgin Mary is not a prominent figure in the hoodoo tradition ( at least to my understanding). Prayers are written and read aloud in the name of God. An understandable act given hoodoo's origins in the black protestant faith. Conversely, petitioning saints belongs to a Catholic mindset, which is not as prevalent in hoodoo.
But how does Virgin Mary fit into this tradition? As she's a powerful figure and the mother of Jesus Christ.
For example, in Romania, Mary may be literally petitioned and mentioned as closely as God in any prayer or charm. She's a strong female influence on tradition and preservation. An endearing and motherly figure and knowledgeable woman.

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
BalkanDiviner ,
Mary falls into the category of a Saint just as the other Catholic saints do, which often have a feast day, color, day of the week, flower, offering, and prayer.
Mary can be seen in other depictions, such as the "Holy Family" where it is Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. She also goes by other titles and those titles are often mentioned when prayed upon. She is known in other parts of the world by other names such as "Our Lady of Guadalupe", or "Our Lady of Mount Carmel" (to name a marginal few names).
As you mentioned most Hoodoo practitioners are protestant and do not do prayers to the saints, they take the commandment not to have any graven images very seriously. This does not mean that Catholics do not practice Hoodoo, this is why a line of products exist for those who do.
You may also notice that those who practice Santeria may also pray to saints like St. Martha, St. Mary, St. Peter, St. Anthony, St. Rita (to name a few). Though they were used as a cover for their African gods, many would argue that those who practice also believe in Mary and the other saints, even Jesus. How they believe may be different than the Protestant or Catholic method, but still a valid method. In the workings it is traditional to recite "Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be", along with other traditional Catholic prayers.
The Collection of Selected Prayers by Allen Kardec is commonly used in Spiritist prayer services; a revised English version by C. Gual exists. Selected Prayers in vol I and II have also been used for prayers to saints, and in these text you will also find the 7 African Powers prayer.

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
I need help understanding something that has just happened.
I have always kept a red pouch in my purse containing a St. Michael prayer card, a chicken foot, and a blend of Angelica, calamus, and bay leaves (with some fiery wall of protection oil rubbed onto the charms).
I’m on vacation today. A few days ago, I spilled some wine in my purse and had to clean everything out — what was interesting to me is that this prompted me to refresh the protection pouch and its contents. It seemed timely given that I was just about to be traveling alone and probably needed some protection.
I set up the St. Michael prayer card with some frankincense, a candle, and a glass of water to venerate him. I put the herbs and chicken foot in a little dish in front of his photo. Fumigated everything with the incense. I prayed St. Michael’s prayer and Psalm 37.
Today I went to the airport. I had accidentally left my Swiss Army knife in my bag, and it was confiscated (I wasn’t punished further—they just had me mail it to myself basically).
When the airport security person took the knife out of my bag, they picked up the red pouch while going through the bag. I’m not sure of the significance of a stranger touching it (feel free to chime in).
I was surprised by this. The symbology of my knife being confiscated made me feel like my “protection” was taken from me.
I just landed, and received notification from the bank that I have been a victim of credit card fraud. Not only this, but the bank had to cancel my credit card, and will be sending me a new one, which means that I will be without my credit card while on vacation.
Does it sound like anything that I did in my little veneration ritual was wrong to an extent that would have made St. Michael angry? Is there another reason that I would have/could have angered St. Michael? Or am I missing the point entirely?
Thanks.

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
dogsofthebins,
The touching of the mojo would kill the mojo, You can try feeding it and using a pendulum to determine if it is dead or not, but likely is dead. It should be buried for its service.
Often people ask, "is God mad at me", "is the Saint mad at me", not all, and those that do are very few, Saints are known to do the opposite to a person, those that do is because they were not properly paid. I have never heard of Michael doing that to a person. It sounds like you were being attacked and the mojo took a hit and now you need to start with a new one.
You can order a St. Michael candle from MISC while on vacation, and each day recite his prayer knowing it is burning for you. When you get home prepare a new mojo.

We are celebrating in our Orthodox Church the ascension of Virgin Mary to Heaven. This reminded me how in our folklore She is associated with weather tricks. Peasants used to threw an icon depicting Mary in running water to stop drought.

balkandiviner,
That's super cool. You have us all sold on Romanian culture. Why is she associated with water?
I also absolutely love Orthodox imagery. before my mother passed she had gotten me several pieces from a local Russian Orthodox store and I absolutely love them. They are just gorgeous.

I believe it is symbolism as Mary being the star that showed the way of Jesus, the translation of Star of the Sea (one of her names) in Latin Stella Maris. Feast day September 27th.

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
Phyllis gabor,
Thank you! I'm planning to speak about saints in the Romanian Orthodox Church in detail in the future. Briefly, the Virgin Mary is the most important figure after the Holy Trinity in Romania and She's seen as the most endearing intermediary between the physical and the spiritual world. Drought severely impacts agriculture as Romania has a large fertile land and many people sought ( it still happens) the aid of divinity to bring rain and stop extreme temperatures.

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
The AIRR Tech Team emerged from a bottle to celebrate the page on the Djinn: powerful spirits of nature, the desert, and the elements.

Created by Allah from a smokeless fire, Djinn have a variety of forms, shapes, and temperaments, inhabiting cemeteries, deserts, caves, and abandoned places. Catherine Yronwode and ConjureMan wrote and edited the page, ConjureMan provided the graphic, and Nagasiva Yronwode did proofreading and created the graphic announcement. Check out our powerful page on Djinn!

Hello everyone, and thank you for supporting "It's All Ephemera"!

This week's Patreon sneak-peek page is the "Days of the Week" (Die Tage der Woche") series S-689" by Liebig Beef Extract -- a lovely set of 6 chromolitho trade cards from 1905 that show the symbolism and attributes of the classical deities associated with the seven days of the week. We scanned and cleaned up the images and added a short history of the publisher, plus some genuine occult lore on planetary magic.

"Your Wate and Fate" spotlights popular and folkloric methods of fortune telling. The web site is filling up with articles that have been underwritten by my Patrons and are now open to the public. Check out what's new at:

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
I had a few things to ask. Does anyone know someone who won't control, but make things happen the way I want when it comes to love. I don't want to hurt anyone, but move things in my favor.
Who is best for making a smooth transition through something. My crossing is getting better and I want to make it a smooth transition into things getting better. That and being psychic and the crossing using that, I want to make sure that things go smooth with that and when I can transition into using it with it going crazy?
Besides St Expedite, who else can make things happen fast and who is good for bringing luck? Thanks

mickeymsb,
You can always pray to God asking to speed things up. Other religions have god's of the crossroads who are known for speeding things up such as Papa Legba, Eleggua spirit of the crossroads. St Peter is associated with crossroads as he has the keys to the kingdom.

Re: Deities, Angels, Spirits, Saints: Questions and Answers
I didn't know I could do that. I thought crossroads were for needing help in knowing which way to go in something. I know what I want, just want the help to make it a smooth transition from coming out of being crossed and into the life I've been fighting for.
Thank You Saint Dymphna, Ganesha, and Saint Jude!

mickeymsb,
Crossroads also represents open roads, roads with no blocks, and a smoother transition. If you are struggling I would start with a 9 Herb Spiritual bath then follow it with Road Opener candles and a Road Opener Mojo.

Road Opener: https://www.luckymojo.com/roadopener.html
