I've only recently started using skull candles.

I found that the longer the candle burns in one session, the wider the pool of wax.
So If I burn only an hour I get the same "core-apple" effect. 2 or 3 hours a night, and the effect is far less pronounced.

It could also be the ambient temperature in the room.

Update:
I finally got the nerve to send an email.
Lo-and-behold, she emailed me back and said she's glad to hear from me.

So a little update:
As guided I took a red candle dressed it in oils and Damiana and placed it on top of the sugar jar that the skull was on the night before.
I did up a similar candle and placed it on our honey jar.

At first the candle wouldn't light as the wick was wet. Both candles lit nicely ...
